Arktele  44.

Au  cas  où  IAllemagne  contreviendrait,  de

duelque  manière  qdue  ce  soit,  aux  dispositions  des
articles  42  et  43,  elle  serait  considéré4comme
commettant  un  acte  hostile  vis-A-vis  des  Puissances
  signataires  du  présent  Traité  et  comme
cherchant  à  troubler  la  paix  du  monde.
SECITION  TV.
BASSIN  DE  LA  SARRE.
Arktele  45.

En  compensation  de  la  destruction  des  mines
de  charbon  dans  le  Nord  de  la  France,  et  à  valoir
sur  le  montant  de  la  réparation  des  dommages
de  guerre  dus  par  UAllemagne,  celle-ci  cède  à  la
France  la  propriété  entière  et  absolue,  franche  et
duitte  de  toutes  dettes  ou  charges,  avec  droit  exclusif
  d’exploitation,  des  mines  de  charbon
sit  uées  dans  le  bassin  de  la  Sarre,  délimité  comme
il  est  dit  à  Tarticle  48.

Article  46.
En  vue  Dassurer  les  droits  et  le  bien-stre  de

la  population  et  de  garantir  à  la  France  la  pleine

liberté  d’exploitation  des  mines,  PAllemagne
accepte  les  dispositions  des  Chapitres  I  et  II  de
Annee  ci-jointe.

En  vue  de  pourvoir  en  temps  opportun  au
statut  delinitif  du  Bassin  de  la  Sarre,  en  tenant
Ccompte  des  vœux  de  la  population,  la  France  et
FPAllemagne  acceptent  les  dispositions  du
Chapitre  III  de  I  Annexe  ci-jointe.  «

Article  48.

Les  limites  du  territoire  du  Bassin  de  la
Sarre,  objet  des  présentes  dispositions,  geront
fixées  comme  il  suit:

Au  Sud  et  au  Sued-Oueser  par  la  frontière  de  la
France,  telle  qu’elle  est  fixée  par  le  présent  Traité.

Au  Nord-Ouesf  ef  au  Vord:  par  une  ligne
suivant  la  limite  administrative  septentrionale  du
cercle  de  Merzig  depuis  le  point  où  elle  se  détache

In  case  Germany  violates  in  any  manner
whatever  the  provisions  of  Articles  42  and  43,  she
shall  be  regarded  as  committing  a  hostile  act
sagainst  the  Powers  signatory  of  the  present
Treaty  and  as  calculated  to  disturb  the  peaco
of  the  world.

SECTION  T.
SAAR  BASIN.
Article  45.

As  compensation  for  tbe  destruction  of  the
coal-mines  in  the  north  of  France  and  as  part
payment  towards  the  total  reparation  due  from
Germany  for  the  damage  resulting  from  the  war,
Germany  cedes  to  France  in  full  and  absoluro

possession,  with  exclusive  rights  of  exploitation,

unencumbered  and  free  from  all  debts  and  charges
  of  any  kind,  the  coal-mines  situated  in  the
Saar  Basin  as  defined  in  Article  48.

Arftele  46.

In  order  to  aseure  the  rights  and  welfare  of
the  population  and  to  guarantee  to  Franee  com-Plete
  freedom  in  working  the  mines,  Germany
agrees  to  the  provisions  of  Chapters  I  and  II
of  the  Annex  hereto.

Article  47.

In  order  to  make  in  due  time  permanent  provision
  for  the  government  of  the  Saar  Basin  in
accordance  with  the  wishbes  of  the  population,
France  and  Germany  agree  to  the  provisions  ot
Chapter  III  of  the  Annex  hereto.

Article  48.  ·

The  boundaries  of  the  territory  of  the  Saar
Basin,  as  dealt  with  in  the  present  stipulations,
will  be  fixed  as  follows:

On  the  south  and  soufl-west:  by  the  frontier
  of  France  as  fixred  by  the  present  Treaty.

On  tae  norfk-west  and  north:  by  a  line  following
