les  aulorités  allemandes  au  cours  de  la  guerre
de  1870—1871  et  de  la  dernière  guerre,  suivant  la
liste  qui  lui  en  sera  adressée  par  le  Gouvernement
françgais,  et  notamment  les  drapeaux  français  pris
au  cours  de  la  guerre  de  1870—1871,  ainsi  due
Tensemble  des  papiers  politiques  pris  par  les
autorités  allemandes  le  10  octobre  1870  au
chätcau  de  Cercay,  pres  Brunoy  (Seine-et-Oise),
appartenant  alors  à  M.  Rouher,  ancien  Ministre
Etat.

Dans  los  six  mois  qui  suivront  la  mise  en
vigueur  du  présent  Traité,  UAllemeagne  devra
restituer  à  Sa  Majesté  le  Roi  du  Hedjaz  le  Koran
roriginal  ayant  appartenu  au  Calife  Osman  et
enlevé  de  Médine  par  les  aucorités  turques  pour
ẽtreo  offert  à  I’ex-Empereur  Guillaume  II.

Le  cräne  du  Sultan  Makaoua  ayant  été  enlevé
du  protectorat  allemand  de  I’Afrique  orientale
et  transporté  en  Allemagne  sera;  dans  le  meme
delai,  remis  par  DPAllemagne  au  Gouvernement
de  Sa  Majesté  Britannique.

La  remise  de  ces  objets  sera  effectuse  dans
tels  lieu  et  conditions  que  fixeront  les  Gouvernements,
  auxquels  ils  doivent  stre  restituss.

Article  247.

L'’Allemagne  s'’engage  à  fournir  à  I’Université
de  Louvain  dans  les  trois  mois  qui  suivront  la
demande  qui  lui  en  sera  faite  par  P’intermédiaire
de  la  Commission  des  réparations,  les  manuscrits,
incunables,  livres  imprimés,  cartes  et  objets  de
collection  correspondant  en  nombre  et  en  valeur
ausx  objels  semblables  détruits  dans  P’incendie  mis

must  restore  to  the  French  Government  the
trophies,  archives,  historical  souvenirs  or  works
of  art  carried  away  from  France  by  the  German
authorities  in  the  course  of  the  war  of  1870—1871
and  during  this  last  war,  in  accordancc  with  a  list
which  will  be  communicated  to  it  by  the  French
Government;  particularly  the  French  flags  taken
in  the  course  of  the  war  of  1870—1871  and  all  the
political  papers  taken  by  the  German  authorities
on  Cctober  10,  1870,  at  the  chateau  of  Cerçay,
near  Brunoy  (Seine-et-Oise)  belonging  at  tho
time  to  Mr.  Rouher,  formerly  Minister  of  State.

Within  six  months  from  the  coming  into  force
of  the  present  Treaty,  Germany  will  restore  to
His  Majesty  the  King  of  the  Hedjaz  the  original
Koran  of  the  Caliph  Othman,  which  was  removed
from  Medina  by  the  Turkish  authorities  and  is
stated  to  have  been  presented  to  the  ex-Emperor
William  II.

Within  the  same  period  Germany  will  hand
over  to  His  Britannic  Majesty's  Governmem  tbe
ekull  of  the  Sultan  Mkwawa  which  was  remoyved
from  the  Protectorate  of  German  East  Africa  and
taken  to  Germany.

The  delivery  of  the  articles  above  referred  to
will  bo  effected  in  such  place  and  in  such
conditions  as  may  be  laid  down  by  the  Govemments
  to  which  they  are  to  be  restoreld.

Article  247.

Germany  undertakes  to  furnish  to  the  University
  of  Louvain,  within  three  months  after  s
request  made  by  it  and  transmitted  through  tbe
intervention  of  the  Reparation  Commission,
manuscripts,  incunabula,  printed  bocks,  maps  and
objects  of  collection  corresponding  in  number  and
value  to  those  destroyed  in  the  burning  by  Ger-
