Article  39.
La  proportion  et  la  nature  des  charges  financières
  de  I  Allemagne  et  de  la  Prusse  que  la  Belgique

aura  à  supporter,  à  raison  des  territoires  qui  lui
sont  cédés,  seront  fixées  conformément  aux  articles
  254  et  256  de  la  Partie  IX  (Clauses  finanoières)
  du  présent  Traité.

SECIION  I.
LUNEMBOUBG.

Article  40.

L'Allemagne  renonce,  en  ce  qui  concerne  le
Grand-Duché  de  Luxzrembourg,  au  bénéfice  de
toutes  dispositions  inscrites  en  sa  faveur  dans
les  Traités  des  8  février  1842,  2  avril  1847,  20-25  octobre
  1865,  18  aoüt  1866,  21  février  et  1  mai  1867,
10  mai  1871,  11  zuin  1872,  11  novembre  1902,  ainsi
due  dans  toutes  Conventions  Consécutives  auxdits
  Traités.

L  ’'Allemagne  reconnaft  que  le  Grand-Duché  de
Luzembourg  a  cessé  de  faire  partie  du  Zollverein
allemand  à  dater  du  ler  sfanvier  1919,  renonce  à
tous  droits  sur  I°e  xploitation  des  chemins  de  fer,
adhere  à  I’abrogation  du  régime  de  neutralité  du
Grand-Duché  et  accepte  par  avance  tous  arrangements
  internationaux  conclus  par  les  Puissances
alliéces  et  associées  relativement  au  Grand-Duché.

Article  41.

L'Allemagne  s'engage  à  faire  bénéficier  le  Grand-Duché
  de  Luxembourg,  sur  la  demande  qui  lui
en  sera  adressée  par  les  Principales  Puissances
alliéces  et  associées,  des  avantages  et  droits,  stipulés
par  le  présent  Traité  au  profit  desdites  Puissances
Ju  de  leurs  ressortissants,  en  matieres  éGconomiques,
de  transport  et  de  navigation  acrienne.

SECTION  II.
BRIVE  GAUCHE  DU  RHI.

Article  42.

II  est  interdit  à  1  Allemagne  de  maintenir  ou  de
Construire  des  fortifications  scit  sur  la  rive  gauche
du  Bhin,  scit  sur  la  rive  droite,  à  l'Ouest  d'une

Article  39.

The  proportion  and  nature  of  the  financial
liabilities  of  Germany  and  of  Prussia  which  Belgium
  will  have  to  bear  on  account  of  the  territories
  ceded  to  her  shall  be  fixed  in  conformit)
with  Article  254  and  256  of  Part  IX  (Einancial
Clauses)  of  the  present  Treaty.

SECTION  II.
LUXEMBUBRG.

Article  40.

With  regard  to  the  Grand  Duchy  of  Luxzemburg,
  Germany  renounces  the  benefit  of  all  thé
Provisions  inserted  in  her  favour  in  the  Treaties
of  February  8,  1842,  April  2,  1847,  October  20—25,
1865,  August  18,  1866,  February  21  and  May  11,
1867,  May  10,  1871,  June  11,  1872,  and  November
  11,  1902,  and  in  all  Conventions  consequent
upon  such  Treaties.

Germany  recognizes  that  the  Grand  Duchy
of  Luxemburg  ceased  to  form  part  of  the  German
Zollverein  as  from  January  1,  1919,  renounces
all  rights  to  the  exploitation  of  the  railwapys,
adheres  to  the  termination  of  the  régime  of  neutrality
  of  the  Grand  Duchy,  and.  accepts  in  advance
  all  international  arrangements  which  may
be  concluded  by  the  Allied  and  Asscciated  Powers
relating  to  the  Grand  Duchy.

Article  41.

Germany  undertakes  to  grant  to  the  Grand
Duchy  of  Luxemburg,  when  a  demand  to  that
effeot  is  made  to  her  by  the  Principal  Allied  and
Associated  Powers,  the  rights  and  advantages
stipulated  in  favour  of  such  Powers  or  their
nationals  in  the  present  Treaty  with  regard  to
economic  questions,  to  questions  relative  to
transport  and  to  aerial  navigation.

SEOTION  MI.
LEFr  BANK  oP  THE  REINKR.

Article  42.

Germany  is  forbidden  to  maintain  or  construct
any  fortifications  either  on  the  left  bank  of  the
Rhine  or  on  the  right  bank  to  the  west  of  a  line
