CHAPTTRE  II.
ARMEMENT,  MUNTHONS  Er  MATERIEI.

Article  164.

Jusqu'fàa  I’époque  oà  FAllemagne  pourra  stre
admis  comme  membre  de  la  Société  4  Nations,
PFarmée  allemande  ne  devra  pas  posséder  un  armement
  supérieur  aux  chiffres  fixés  dans  le  tableau
no  II  annexé  à  la  présente  Section,  sauf  un  com-Plément
  facultatif  qui  pourra  atteindre,  au  mazximum
  un  vingt-einquisme  pour  les  armes  à  feu  et
un  cinquantieème  pour  les  Canons,  et  sera  exclusivement
  destiné  à  pourvoir  à  Péventualité  des  remplacements
  nécessaires.

L’Allemagne  déclare  s'engager  des  à  présent,
pour  D’époque  où  elle  sera  admise  romme  membre
de  la  Société  des  Nations,  à  ce  due  I’armement,
fixé  dans  ledit  tableau,  ne  soit  pas  dépassé  et  reste
sujet  à  étre  modifié  par  le  Conseil  de  la  Société
dont  elle  s'engage  à  observer  strictement  les  décisions
  à  cet  egard.

Article  165.

Le  nombre  maximum  de  canons,  mitrailleuses,
minenwerfers  et  fusils,  ainsi  que  le  stock  des  munitions
  et  Cquipements,  que  ’Allemagne  est  autorisée
à  maintenir  pendant  la  période  devant  s'écouler
entre  la  mise  en  vigueur  du  présent  Traité  et  la
date  du  31  mars  1920  visée  à  article  160,  présentera,
  vis-à-vis  des  stocks  maxima  autorisés  fixés
au  tableau  no  III  annexé  à  la  présente  Section,
la  méme  proportion  que  les  forces  de  T’armée  allemande,
  au  fur  et  à  mesure  des  réductions  prévues
à  TParticle  163,  présenteront  vis-à-vis  des  forces
maxima  autorisées  par  Farticle  160.

Article  166.

A  la  date  du  31  mars  1920,  le  stock  de  munitions,
dont  l’armée  allemande  pourra  disposer,  ne  devra
pas  dépasser  les  chiffres  fixés  dans  le  tableau  no  III
annex  à  la  présente  Section.

Dans  le  même  délai,  le  Gouvernement  allemand
devra  entreposer  ces  stocks  dans  des  lieux,  dont
Üdonnera  notification  aux  Gouvernements  des  Principales
  Puissances  alliées  et  associées.  II  lui  est
interdit  de  constituer  aucun  autre  stock,  dépöt  ou
röserve  de  munitions.

Article  167.

Le  nombre  et  le  calibre  des  canons  constituant,
àla  date  de  la  mise  en  vigueur  du  présent  Traité,
Tarmement  des  ouvrages  fortifiés,  forteresses  et
Places  fortes,  terrestres  ou  maritimes,  due  l'Allemagne
  est  autorisée  à  conserver,  devront  étre  immédiatement
  notifiés  par  le  Gouvernement  allemand
aux  Gouvernements  des  Principales  Puissances  allibes
  et  associées  et  seront  des  maxima  ne  pouvant
Pas  etre  dépassés.

Dans  le  délai  de  deux  mois,  à  dater  de  la  mise
en  vigueur  du  présent  Traité,  Papprovisionnement
maximum  de  ces  canons  sera  uniformément  ra-CHAPTER

ARMAMENT,  MUNTLIONS,  AND  MATERIAL.

Article  164.

Up  till  the  time  at  which  Germany  is  admitted
  as  a  member  of  the  League  of  Nations  the
German  Army  must  not  possess  an  armament
greater  than  the  amounts  fixed  in  Table  No.  II
annexed  to  this  Section,  with  the  exception  of  an
optional  increase  not  exceeding  one-twentyfifth
part  for  small  arms  and  one-fiftieth  part  for  guns,
which  shall  be  exclusively  used  to  provide  for
such  eventual  replacements  as  may  be  necessary.

Germany  agrees  that  after  she  has  become  a
member  of  the  League  of  Nations  the  armaments
fixed  in  the  said  Table  shall  remain  in  force  until
they  are  modified  by  the  Council  of  the  League.
Furthermore  she  hereby  agrees  strictly  to  observe
  the  decisions  of  r  Council  of  the  League
on  this  subject.

Article  165.

The  maximum  number  of  ,  machine  guns,
trench-  mortars,  rifles  and  the  amount  of  ammunition
  and  equipment  which  Germany  is
allowed  to  maintain  during  the  period  between
the  coming  into  force  of  the  present  Treaty  and
the  date  of  March  31,  1920,  referred  to  in  Artiche
  160,  shall  bear  the  same  proportion  to  the
amount  authorized  in  Table  No.  III  annexed  to
this  Section  as  the  strength  of  the  German  Army
as  reduced  from  time  to  time  in  accordance  with
Article  163  bears  to  the  strength  permitted  under
Article  160.

Article  166.

At  the  date  of  March  31,  1920,  the  stock  of
munitions  which  the  German  Army  may  have  at
its  disposal  shall  not  exceed  the  amounts  fixed  in
Table  No.  III  annexed  to  this  Section.

Within  the  same  period  the  German  Government
  will  store  these  stocks  at  points  to  be
notifiei  to  the  Governments  of  the  Principal
Allied  and  Associated  Powers.  The  German  Government
  is  forbidden  to  establish  any  other
stocks,  depots  or  reserves  of  munitions.

Article  167.

The  number  and  calibre  of  the  guns  constituting
  at  the  date  of  the  coming  into  force  of  the
Present  Treaty  the  armament  of  the  fortified
works,  fortresses,  and  any  land  or  coast  forts
which  Germany  is  allowed  to  retain  must  be
notified  immediately  by  the  German  Government
to  the  Governments  ef  the  Principal  Allied  and
Asscciated  Powers,  and  will  constitute  maximum
amounts  which  may  not  be  exceeded.

Within  two  months  from  the  cooming  into
foroe  of  the  present  Treaty,  the  maximum  stock
of  ammunition  for  these  guns  will  be  reduced  to,
