archives,  souvenirs  bistoriques  ou  œuvres  d'art
enlevés  de  France  par  les  autorités  allemandes  au
cours  de  la  guerre  de  1870—1871  et  de  la  dernière
guerre,  suivant  la  liste  qui  lui  en  sera  adresséee  par
le  Gouvernement  français,  et  notamment  les  drapen
  français  pris  au  cours  de  la  guerre  de  1870

1871,  ainsi  que  lensemble  des  papiers  politiques
Pris  par  les  autorités  allemandes  le  10  octobre
1870  au  chäteau  de  Cerçay,  près  Bruncdy  (Seineet-Oise),
  appartenant  alors  à  M.  Rouher,  ancien
Ministre  d'Etat.

Article  246.

Dans  les  six  mois  qui  suivront  la  mise  en  vigueur
du  présent  Traité,  I’Allemagne  devra  restituer  à
Sa  Majesté  le  Roi  du  Hedjaz  le  Koran  original
ayant  appartenu  au  Calife  Osman  et  enleve  de
Médine  par  les  autorités  turques  pour  Stre  offert
à  Pex-Empereur  Guillaume  H.

Le  cräne  du  Sultan  Makacua  ayant  6té  enlevé  du
Protectorat  allemand  de  l’Afrique  orientale  et  trans-Porté
  en  Allemagne  sera,  dans  le  méme  délai,  remis
par  TAllemagne  au  Gouvernement  de  Sa  Majesté

ritannique.

„La  remise  de  ces  objets  sera  effectuce  dans  tels
lieu  et  conditions  due  fixeront  les  Gouvernements,
auxquels  üs  deivent  stre  restitués.

Article  247.

L-Allemagne  s'engage  à  fournir  à  I'  Université  de
Louvain  dans  les  trois  mois  qui  suivront  la  demande
  qui  lui  en  sera  faite  par  D’intermédiaire  de
la  Commission  des  réparations,  les  manuscrits,  imcunables,
  livres  imprimés,  cartes  et  objets  de
collection  correspondant  en  nombre  et  en  valeur
aux  objets  semblables  détruits  dans  l’incendie  mis
Par  I/Allemagne  à  la  Bibliothéque  de  Louvain.
Tous  les  détails  concernant  le  remplacement  seront
déterminés  par  la  Commission  des  réparations.

L'’Allemagne  s'engage  à  remettre  à  la  Belgique,
par  P’intermédiaire  de  la  Commission  des  rôöparations,
  dans  les  six  mois  qui  suivront  la  mise  en
vigueur  du  présent  Traité,  et  afin  de  lui  permettre
de  reconstituer  deux  grandes  ceuvres  d'’art:

10  Les  volets  du  tryptique')  del-Agneau  mystique
peint  par  les  freres  Van  Eyck,  autrefois  dans  l'église

de  Saint-Bavon  à  Gand  et  actuellement  au  Musée

de  Berlin;
20  Les  volets  du  tryptique  de  la  Cene,  peint  par
Dierick  Bouts,  autrefois  dans  T’église  de  Saint-Pierre

  à  Louvain,  et  dont  deux  sont  maintenant
au  Musée  de  Berlin  et  deux  à  ancienne  Pinacothéque
  de  Munich.

#of  art  carried  away  from  France  by  tbe  German
authorities  in  the  course  of  the  war  of  1870—1871
and  during  this  last  war,  in  accordance  with  a  list
which  will  be  communicated  to  it  by  the  French
Government;  particularly  the  French  flags  taken
in  the  course  of  the  war  of  1870—1871  and  all  the
political  papers  taken  by  the  German  authorities
on  Cctober  17,  1870,  at  the  chateau  of  Cerçay,
near  Brunoy  (Seine-et-Oise)  belonging  at  the  time
to  Mr.  Rouher,  formerly  Minister  of  State.

Article  246.

Within  six  months  from  the  coming  into  force
of  the  present  Treaty,  Germany  will  restore  to
His  Majesty  the  King  of  the  Hedjaz  the  original
Koran  of  the  Caliph  Othman,  which  was  removed.
from  Medina  by  the  Turkish  authorities  and  is
stated  to  have  been  presented  to  the  ex-Emperor
William  II.

Within  the  same  period  Germany  will  hand
over  to  His  Britannic  Majesty's  Government  the
skull  of  the  Sultan  Mkwawa  which  was  removed.
from  the  Protectorate  of  German  East  Africa  and
taken  to  Germany.

The  delivery  of  the  articles  above  referred  to
will  be  effected  in  such  place  and  in  such  conditions
  as  may  be  laid  down  by  the  Governments
to  which  they  are  to  be  restored.

Article  247.

Germany  undertakes  to  furnish  to  the  University
  cof  Louvain,  within  three  months  after  a
request  made  by  it  and  transmitted  through  the
intervention  of  the  Reparation  Commission,  manuscripts,
  incunabula,  printed  books,  maps  and
objects  of  collection  corresponding  im  number  and
value  to  those  destroyed  in  the  burning  by
Germany  of  the  Library  of  Louvain.  All  details
regarding  such  replacement  will  be  determined
by  the  Reparation  Commission.

Germany  undertakes  to  deliver  to  Belgium,
through  the  Reparation  Commission,  within  six
months  of  the  coming  into  force  of  the  present
Treaty,  in  order  to  enable  Belgium  to  reconstitute
two  great  artistic  works:

(1)  The  leaves  of  the  triptych  of  the  Mystic
Lamb  painted  by  the  Van  Eyck  brotbers,  formerly
in  the  Church  of  St.  Bavon  at  Ghent,  now  in  the
Berlin  Museum;

(2)  The  leaves  of  the  triptych  of  the  Last
Supper,  painted  by  Dierick  Bouts,  formerly  in  the
Church  of  St.  Peter  at  Louvain,  two  of  which  are
now  in  the  Berlin  Museum  and  two  in  the  Old
Pinakothek  at  Munich.
