d)  A  ne  pas  imposer  aux  ressortissants  de
T’une  quelconque  des  Puissances  allices  et  associces
  une  restriction  quelconque  qui  n'était  pas
applicable  aux  ressortissants  de  ces  Puissances  à
la  date  du  ler  juillet  1914,  à  moins  que  la  méme
restriction  ne  soit  également  imposée  à  ses  pro-Pres
  nationaux.

Article  277.

Les  ressortissants  des  Puissances  alliées  et
associées  jouiront  sur  le  territoire  allemand,  d’une
Cconstante  protection,  pour  leur  personne,  leurs
biens,  droits  et  intéréts  et  auront  libre  acces
devant  les  tribunaux.

Article  278.

L'Allemagne  s'engage  à  reconnaitre  la  nouvelle
  nationalité  qui  aurait  été  ou  serait  acquise
Par  ses  ressortissants  d’aprés  les  lois  des  Puissances
  alliéces  ou  associées  et  conformément  aux
décisions  des  autorités  compétentes  de  ces  Puis-Sances,
  soit  par  voie  de  naturalisation,  soit  par
Teffet  d’'une  clause  d’un  traité  et  à  dégager  à  tous
les  points  de  vue  ces  ressortissants,  en  raison  de
cette  acquisition  de  nouvelle  nationalité,  de  toute
allégeance  vis-à-vis  de  leur  Etat  d’origine.

Article  279.

Les  Puissances  alliéces  et  associées  pourront
nommer  des  consuls  généraux,  consuls,  vice-Cconsuls
  et  agents  consulaires  dans  les  villes  et  ports
d’Allemagne.  L’Allemagne  s'’engage  à  approuver
la  désignation  de  ces  consuls  généraux,  consuls,
vice-Consuls  et  agents  consulaires,  dont  les  noms
lui  seront  notifiés,  et  à  les  admettre  à  I’exercice
de  leurs  fonctions  conformément  aux  regles  et
usages  habituels.

CHAPTTRE  V.
CLAUSES  GENERALES.

Article  280.

Les  obligations,  imposées  à  DAllemagne  par
le  Chapitre  1  et  par  les  articles  271  et  272  du
Chapitre  II  ci-dessus,  cesseront  d’'’eétre  en  vigueur
cind  ans  apres  la  date  de  la  mise  en  vigueur  du

résent  Traité,  à  moins  que  le  contraire  résulte

u  texte  ou  que  le  Conseil  de  la  Société  des  Nations
  décide,  douze  mois  au  moins  avant  Pexpiration
  de  cette  période,  que  ces  obligations  seront
maintenues  pour  une  HPériode  subséquente  avec
ou  sans  amendement.

L'articke  276  du  Chapitre  IV  restera  en  vigueur
  apres  cette  période  de  cind  ans,  avec  ou
sans  amendement,  pour  telle  période,  s’il  en  est

those  which  are  or  may  be  imposed  on  her  own
nationals  or  their  property,  rights  or  interests;

(d)  Not  to  subject  the  nationals  of  the  Allied
and  Asscciated  Fowers  to  any  restriction  which
was  not  applicable  on  July  1,  1914,  to  the
nationals  of  such  Powers  unless  such  restriction
is  likewise  imposed  on  her  own  nationals.

Article  277.

The  nationals  of  the  Allied  and  Associated
Fowers  shall  enjoy  in  German  territory  a  constant
Protection  for  their  persons  and  for  their  property,
rights  and  interests,  and  shall  have  free  access
to  the  courts  of  law.

Article  278.

Germany  undertakes  to  recognize  any  new
nationality  which  has  been  or  may  be  acquired
byher  nationals  under  the  laws  of  the  Allied  and
Associated  Powers  and  in  accordance  with  the
decisions  of  the  competent  authorities  of  these
Powers  pursuant  to  naturalisation  laws  or  under
treaty  stipulations,  and  to  regard  such  persons
as  having,  in  consequence  of  the  acquisition  of
such  new  nationality,  in  all  respects  severed  their
allegiance  to  their  country  of  origin.

Article  279.

The  Allied  and  Associated  Powers  may  appoint
Consuls-general,  consuls,  vice-Consuls,  and  consular
agents  in  German  towns  and  ports.  Germany
undertakes  to  approve  the  designation  of  the
consuls-general,  Cconsuls,  vice-ronsuls,  and  consular
agents,  whose  names  shall  be  notified  to  her,
and  to  admit  them  to  the  exercise  of  their  functions
in  conformity  with  the  usual  rules  and  customs.

CHAPTER  V.
GENERAL  ARTICLES.

Article  280.

The  obligations  imposed  on  Germany  by  Chapter
  I  and  by  Articles  271  and  272  of  Chapter
above  shall  cease  to  have  effect  five  Fears  from.
the  date  of  the  coming  into  force  of  the  present
Treaty,  unless  otherwise  prowileh  in  the  text,
or  unless  the  Council  of  the  League  of  JNations
shall,  at  least  twelve  months  before  the  expiration
of  that  period,  decide  that  these  obligations  shall
be  maintained  for  a  further  period  with  or  without
amendment.

Article  276  of  Chepter  IV  shall  remain  in  operation,
  with  or  without  amendment,  after  the
period  of  five  Fears  for  such  further  period,  if
