between Germany and Japan. 
Tie Government of His Majesty 
the German lanperor. King of Prussia, 
and the dovernment of IIis Masest 
the lanperor of Japan, in fulfilment 
üofthe second paragraph of Section 3, 
ofthe Protocol anneked to the Treaty 
of Commerce and Navigation, conu- 
cluded between Germany and apan, 
at Berlin, on the 4½ of April 1896, 
have agreed as follows: 
1. Ihe Tariff annexed to this 
Convention, Shall be substituted for 
the ad valorem Tarifl annexed to 
the aloresaid Protocol of the 4½ of 
April 1896. It shall be suhject to 
all the stipulations contained in 
Section 3, of said Protocol, in So 
lür as these arc applicable, and it 
hall come into force on the 1“ of 
Jamary, 1899, corresponding to the 
1“ (day of the 1“ month of the 
32° yenr of Meisji. 
2. The Dresent Consention shall 
havc the same duration asthe Treaty 
and Protocol of the 4% of April 1896,

(Nr. 2554.) Nachtragskonvention zwischen 
dem Deutschen Reich und Japan. 
Vom 26. Dezember 1898. 
Die Regierung Seiner Majestät des 
Deutschen Kaisers, Königs von Preußen, 
und die Regierung Seiner Mazjestät des 
Kaisers von Japan haben in Vollziehung 
von Ziffer 3 Absatz 2 des Protokolls zu 
dem in Berlin am 4. April 1896 
zwischen Deutschland und Japan ab- 
geschlossenen Handels- und Schiffahrts- 
vertrage Folgendes vereinbart: 
1. Der dieser Konvention beigefügte 
Tarif soll an die Stelle des dem vor 
gedachten Protokolle vom 4. April 1896 
beigefügten Werthzolltarifs treten. Er 
soll allen in Ziffer 3 dieses Protokolls 
enthaltenen Bestimmungen, soweit sie 
anwendbar sind, unterworfen sein und am 
1. Januar 1899 (1. Tag des 1. Monats 
des 32. Jahres Meiji) in Kraft treten. 
Die gegenwärtige Konvention soll 
die gleiche Dauer haben wie der Ver— 
trag und das Protokoll vom 4. April 
1896, zu denen sie die Ergänzung bildet.
