mit dem 9. Grad nördlicher Breite gebildet werden; von dort soll die Grenze in nördlicher Richtung, indem sie den Ort Morozugu an Großbritannien läßt, laufen und an Ort und Stelle durch eine ge- mischte Kommission der beiden Mächte in der Weise festgesetzt werden, daß Gambaga und die sämmtlichen Gebiete von Mamprusi an Großbritannien, Yendi und die sämmtlichen Gebiete von Chakosi an Deutsch- land fallen. Artikel VI. Deutschland ist bereit, etwaigen Wünschen der großbritannischen Regierung in Bezug auf die Ge- staltung der beiderseitigen Zolltarife in Togo und der Goldküste nach Möglichkeit und in weitgehendster Weise entgegenzukommen. Artikel VII. Deutschland giebt seine exterritorialen Rechte in Sansibar auf; jedoch ist gleichzeitig verabredet, daß dieser Verzicht erst mit dem Zeitpunkt in Kraft treten soll, an welchem die anderen Nationen dort zustehenden Exterritorialitätsrechte ebenfalls aufgehoben sein werden. Artikel VIII. Die vorliegende Konvention soll sobald als mög- lich ratifizirt werden und unmittelbar nach Austausch der Ratifikationen in Kraft treten. Zu Urkund dessen haben die Unterzeichneten sie vollzogen und ihre Siegel beigedrückt. So geschehen in doppelter Ausfertigung zu London, den 14. November 1899. (L. S.) (L. S.) Erklärung. Es herrscht Einverständniß darüber, daß Deutsch- land durch den Artikel II der am heutigen Tage vollzogenen Konvention seine Zustimmung dazu er- klärt, daß die ganze Gruppe der Howe-Inseln, welche einen Theil der Salomons-Inseln bildet, an Großbritannien fallen soll. Es ist gleichfalls ausgemacht, daß die Bestim- mungen der von den beiden Regierungen am 10. April 1886 zu Berlin unterzeichneten Deklaration, betreffend die Handelsfreiheit im westlichen Stillen Ozean, auf die in der vorstehenden Konvention er- wähnten Inseln anwendbar sind. Es ist ebenso verabredet worden, daß die zur Zeit bestehende Uebereinkunft über die Anwerbung von Arbeitern auf den Salomons-Inseln durch deutsche Reichsangehörige den Letzteren gestattet, diese Arbeiter unter denselben Bedingungen anzuwerben, welche großbritannischen, nicht auf jenen Inseln wohnhaften Unterthanen auferlegt sind oder noch auferlegt werden. So geschehen in doppelter Ausfertigung zu London, den 14. November 1899. (I. S.) (I. Article VI. Germany is prepared to take into conside- ration, as much and as far as possiblo, the wishes which the Government of Great Britain may express with regard to the development of the reciprocal Tariffs in the territories of Togo and of the Gold Coast. Article VII. Germanv renounces her rights of extra- territorialit#’# in Zanzibar, but it is at the same time understood that this renunciation shall not #Oeffectively come into force till such time as the rigths of extra- territorialit# enjoyed there br other nations shall be abolished. Article VIII. The present Convention shall be ratified as soon as possible, and shall come into force immediatelr after the exchange of ratifications. In witness whereof the Undersigned have signed it, and hare affized thereto their seals. Done in duplicate at London, the 1tth day- Of November, 1899. (gez.) Hatzfeldt. (gez.) Salisbuny. Declaration. It is clearly understood that b# Article II of the Convention signed to-da, GCermanr consents that the whole group of the Howe Islands, which forms part of the Solomon lslands, shall fall to Great Britain. It is also understood that the stipulations of the Declaration between the two Covernments signed at Berlin on the 1oth April 1886, respeet- ing freedom of commerce in the Western D’acific, apply to the islands mentioned in the aforesaid Convention. It is similarl understood that the arrangoe- ment at present in force as to the engagement of labourers b’ Germans in the Solomon Ilslands permits Germans to engage those labourers on te same conditions as those which are or which shall be imposed on Britiah subjects non-resident, in those islands.
