Ö — Protocol. — — 1 he undersigned simultaneocusly With the Sunplementar#y Convention signed this day have agreed upon the lollowing stipulations: 1. With regard to the Ven men- tioned in the Tall mmezxed to the #atoresaic Supplementary Convention it is understood that whatewer vights helong or may belong to Ciraat Britain in virtue of tüe description ol#the Lenrappended to the Tariftof the Anglo-Japanese Supplementary Conkention dated the 16% of July 1895 shall be equally extended to Germany. The Government of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan, howm- cver, wish it understood, that this declaration creates no interence as to the existence in favor of Great Britain of any rights in the direction indicated. 2. Respecting the question of Certi- ficates of Origin and the Legalization f Inwoices it is understood, that the Words „other proper authorities- appearing in Article II of the Ja- Danese Imperial Ordinance N’. 385, dated the 27#of October 1897, cor- responding to the 273 day of the 10% month of the 30½ year of Meiji, are held to include German Police Oflicers, in the absence of competent Japanese Consular Authorities, and that the term „competent Japanese 154 (Ucbersetzung.) Protokoll. Die Unterzeichneten haben gleichzeitig mit der Nachtragskonvention vom heutigen Tage noch folgende Vereinbarungen ge- troffen: 1. Was den in dem Tarife zu der ge- nannten Nachtragskonvention erwähnten Men angeht, so versteht es sich, daß alle Rechte, die Großbritannien auf Grund der dem Tarife zur englisch- japanischen Nachtragskonvention vom 16. Juli 1895 hinzugefügten Definition des BYen zustehen oder zustehen mögen, in gleicher Weise auf Deutschland aus- gedehnt werden sollen. Die Regierung Seiner Majsstet des Kaisers von Japan macht jedoch darauf aufmerksam, daß aus dieser Erklärung eine Folgerung über das Vorhandensein irgend welcher Rechte Großbritanniens in der an- gedeuteten Richtung nicht gezogen werden kann. 2. Bezüglich der Frage der Ursprungs- zeugnisse und der Fakturenbeglaubigung versteht es sich, daß die im Artikel II der Kaiserlich japanischen Verordnung Nr. 385 vom 27. Oktober 1897 (27. Tag des 10. Monats des 30. Jahres Meij gebrauchten Worte „andere geeignete Behörden“ deutsche Polizeibehörden in sich schließen sollen, wenn zuständige japanische Konsularbehörden nicht vor- handen sind, und daß der Aud#druck / uständige jabani che Kons ularbehärden 1 japanische Wahlkonsuln nicht in sich be-
