elles  seront  payées  ou  créditées  dans  la  monneie
de  la  Puissance  alliéce  ou  associée  intéressée
(colonie,  protectorat,  Dominion  britannique  ou
Inde).  La  conversion  se  fera  au  taux  du  change
Tavant-guerre.

Pour  T’application  de  cotte  disposition,  on
considere  due  le  taux  du  change  Tavant-guerre
est  6gal  à  la  moyonne  des  taux  des  transferts  télégraphiques
  de  la  Puissance  alliéce  ou  associée
intéressée  pendant  le  mois  précédant  immédiatement
  Touverture  des  hostilités  entre  ladite
Puissance  intéressée  et  IAllemagne.

Dans  le  cas  où  un  contrat  stipulerait  ex-Pressément
  un  taafx  fixe  de  change  pour  la  conversion
  de  la  monnaie,  dans  laquelle  l'obligation
est  exprimée,  en  la  monnaie  de  la  Puissance  alliée
ou  associée  intéressée,  la  disposition  ei-dessus,
relative  au  taux  du  change  ne  sera  pas  applicable.

En  ce  qdui  concerne  les  Puissances  nouvellement
  créées,  la  monnaie  de  rèeglement  et  le  taux
du  change  applicables  aux  dettes  à  payer  ou  à
créditer  seront  fixzés  par  la  Commission  des
réparations  prévues')  dans  la  Partie  VIII  (Ré-Parations);


Les  prescriptions  du  présent  article  et  de
TAnnexe  ci-jointe  ne  s'appliqueront  pas  entre
IAllemagne  d’une  part  et,  d’autre  part,  Tune
duelconque  des  Puissances  alliées  ou  associées,
leurs  colonies  et  pays  de  protectorat,  ou  l'un
quclconquo  des  Dominions  britanniques,  ou  L’Inde,
à  moins  que,  dans  un  délai  d’un  mois,  à  dater  du
dépôt  de  la  ratilication  du  présent  Traité  par  la
Puissance  en  qduostion  ou  de  la  ratification  pour
le  compte  de  ce  Dominion  ou  de  I’/Inde,  notification
à  cet  effet  ne  soit  donnée  à  PAllemagne  par  les
Gouvernemonts  de  telle  Puissance  alliéce  ou
associéce,  de  tel  Dominion  britannique,  ou  de
Tinde,  suivant  le  cas.

f)  Les  Puissances  alliées  et  associéces  qui  ont
adhéré  au  présent  article  et  à  PAnnexe  ci-jJointe,
Pourront  convenir  entre  elles  de  les  appliquer  à

curreney  of  the  country  concerned,  whether  an
Allied  or  Associated  Power,  Colony),  Protectorate,
  Britich  Dominion  or  India,  at  the  pre-war
rate  of  exchange.

For  the  purpose  of  this  provision  the  prewar
  rate  of  exchange  shall  be  defined  as  the
average  cable  transfer  rate  prevailing  in  the
Allied  or  Associated  country  concerned  during
the  month  immediately  preceding  the  outbreak
of  war  between  the  said  country  concerned  and
Germany.

If  a  contract  provides  for  a  fixed  rate  of  erxchange
  governing  the  conversion  of  the  currency
in  which  the  debt  is  stated  into  the  currency  ol
the  Allied  or  Associated  country  concerned,  then
the  above  provisions  concerning  the  rate  —
change  shall  not  apply.

In  the  case  of  new  States  the  Ccurrency  in
which  and  the  rate  of  exchange  at  which  debts
shall  be  paid  or  credited  shall  be  determined  by
the  Reparation  Commission  provided  for  in  Part
VIII  (Reparation);

(e)  The  provisions  of  this  Article  and  of  the
Annex  hereto  shall  not  apply  as  between  Germany
  on  the  one  hand  and  any  one  of  the  Allied
and  Associated  Powers,  their  colonies  or  protectorates,
  or  any  one  of  the  Britieh  Dominions
or  India  on  the  other  hand,  unless  within  a  period
  of  one  month  from  the  deposit  of  the  ratitication
  of  the  present  Treaty  by  the  Power  in
question,  or  of  tbe  ratification  on  behalf  of  such
Dominion  or  of  India,  notice  to  that  effect  is
given  to  Germany  by  the  Government  of  such
Allied  or  Associated  Power  or  of  such  Dominion

or  of  India  as  the  case  may  bo;

have  adopted  this  Article  and  the  Annex  hereto
may  agree  between  themselves  to  apply  them  to
